New B6 A4 owner (2004 A4)
Hey everyone. Got a nice deal on a B6 that was well maintained with less than 100k miles 2004 for only $3500. Timing belt, water pump, fuel pump changed with receipt/records
Owner recently got a new SUV and needed to get rid of the A4 since there was no room in the garage.
The only issue is that the low fuel warning is always lit up and the fuel gauge doesnt always go to full when filled all the way up (it goes to 3/4th) and drops as fuel is consumed. The owner said that this started right after the fuel pump was installed. Perhaps the float wasn't installed correctly or something but I have no issue with the fuel warning light. I just remind myself to fill up every 250 miles and reset the counter each time.
Another problem is I bought it with a missing fuel/gas cap. I just ordered an OES one since someone mentioned that there is a magnet on the OES gas cap to trigger the fuel cap light on and off.
I received the OES gas cap which I bought from GenuineAudiParts and it didnt come with a tie to tie it to the car. Is it supposed to be tied to the car? If not, no wonder why people loose their gas cap.

I think that I know how to fix your fuel gauge issue; mine was doing the same thing after the pump change, and I came across a solution that worked. Basically, there is a formed, stiff plastic tube that is attached to underside of the white plastic tank cover, which if installed improperly, gets in the way of the float. I ran my tank fairly low on gas, then opened the cover; the plastic hose was indeed not correctly installed. Look at the pump mounting frame: you will see a small tapered funnel with a hole in the middle. That's where the black tube goes. Feed the tube through the funnel, then close it up. Good chance that your next fillup shows Full on the gauge.
