Default Newfound Respect

The daughter's 2005 B6 was hit in a parking garage about a month ago. Of course the insurance company wanted to write it off. I reluctantly decided to repair it myself. Used hood, radiator support bracket, front bumper cover and new headlight support bracket, new headlight washer cover. That was it. As I dismantled the front of the car, I came to truly respect how well thought out the assembly and disassembly were. Of course, my means of comparison are the three Alfa Romeos that live in my garage. So, bottom line is the B6 is much easier to work on than I expected.
Cost comparison:
Insurance Body Shop $3770
DIY: $731 (paint) $400 (Parts)=$1131

My daughter sold me her 2005 3.0 instead of accepting the low-ball offer from the Audi dealer when she bought an A5. After repairing some items, including the hard to reach plastic coolant pipe under the intake manifold, it's my reliable daily driver. I agree that the B6 is well-designed throughout, better in some ways than my older B5 A4.
