Default noob needs help

just picked up a 02 a4 1.8t with auto trans. i dont know what the CVT is, or is it all auto trans?

CEL is on and so is EPC, it idles high around 1200, is in limp mode and wont rev higher than 4k, and from a stop hesitates and suddenly jumps after a several seconds. sometimes rolls back on a hill(not mashing the pedal, slowly pressing keeping it below 1.5k). trans shifts fine once moving, no hesitation or anything of the sort. yes i have searched a bit but would like to get some definite answers if possible. scanned it already, got a p0322 and 3 others as misfire. ive read that a speed sensor will solve this problem and some threads i read coil packs are the cause. dont want to go around buying parts i dont need. i will be doing an oil/trans fluid change tomorrow and possibly the speed sensor too. also are all auto trans CVT?

First you should take care of the misfires and the P0322 DTC. That may just take care of the limp mode and poor shifting.

CTV transmissions are not my favorite type of transmissions, but you need to get the engine to work properly before blaming the transmission or the TCM.

^^^^I second that! EPC and engine light could also be a MAF sensor. I had the same symptoms but had a code p0102 and the MAF took care of it. Good luck!
