NOT a big audi fan
I do believe that if the hub bearings are going out then you don't just want to turn the wheel... With one hand on top of the tire and your other hand exactly opposite try to shake the tire. It should be solid, if not then your bearings are shot. If they are already shot then the scraping/growling you here is metal shavings from the metal shavings eating at other metal parts. I waited too long before figuring out that it was bearings going out and when I noticed I had one lug bolt still intact and the wheel was close to falling off and I was driving around 70 mph. Don't wait to long...
04-POS-A4,
Did you determine that your problem is in fact a bearing? I get a groaning coming from the bottom of my car, but it is not the bearings. It comes from the drive shaft or rear part of the transmission case. A few bearings were replaced in the tranny, but the groan remains.
This groaning (at low speeds) and whining (at high speeds) is REALLY annoying, but I haven't found anyone with the same problem.
Let me know - thanks!

I have an 04 A4 for sell if you want a different one...LoL! I have had all these same problems. Thanks to our friends on Audiforums.com I realized you don't have to pay a mechanic $600 to replace coil packs.
Here is some good news though; Audi's 2010 A4 no longer will sport the turbo engine (which they had so many problems with) they are starting to use a super charged engine. Yeah!
