Are oiled K&N filters a bad idea?
I recently got a K&N filter replacement for my A4 3.0. The filter came pre-oiled from the factory. I was just reading a thread about the oil on the filter causing problems with the MAF. Should I replace the filter or keep it? Now what would be the symptoms of a malfunctioning MAF, and is there a way to clean it?
I also bought a K&N cone filter kit from ebay, also oiled which i was going to install this weekend... now I don't know if I should anymore
Any thoughts?

Its does happen, but not as much as most make it seem. Its most often the people that cleaned and reoiled it with to much oil. You most likely will be fine. Just clean your maf with some maf cleaner at every oil change
I think he's right. The problem with my K&N is that is wasnt made exact and there was a gap in between the intake box and the rubber seal of the filter. Very poor manufacturing IMO. Got a paper filter for $13.88. That will last 20-30K miles, and the K&N was $60 I think.
really? i have heard that they fit pretty snugly, but maybe the box is slightly different in the B7 model which would be wierd imo... but there is also another filter as an alternative to K&N that is supposed to be equal to K&N... i cant remember the name but if you check the B7 forum, its under one of the K&N air filter topics
