Default Problems with B6 A4

2003 1.8 T Quattro A4 - Just today the check engine light came on, and the engine starts jerking. I pulled over and opened the hood. The issue seems to be coming from under or around the cadalitic converter. When I accelerate the jerking begins. It happens slightly while in nuetral. Has anyone had any similar problems?

Go to advance auto parts and have them check your codes, they do it for free

Thanks for suggesting Advance. P00304 Cylinder 4 Misfire. Is this something I could fix myself or should I take it in?

check the plugs and their gapto see if they are ok and replace if needed. Also move the coilpack to a differnt cylinder and see if the misfires go with the coilpack.

cyl 4 is in the back of the engine.

I can't even figure out how to get to the plugs. How do I get the plastic thing on top off (not the plastic cover that says 1.8 Turbo)? Sorry, noob, and not so mechanically inclined.

the plastic engine cover has "screws" in it that you just undo like normal ones and then you either have to just pull up the coilpack or unbolt the coilpack with a 5mm hex wrench. If your trying to do the harness, you need to pull the tab back until it clicks. But be careful, they break easily (but doesnt ruin them)

On my old b5 I had a similar prob it was the mass air flow sensor on the airbox i dont know off hand if the b6s have them I am still getting fimiliar with my new car but If they do you should check that because it was not the plugs or coilpacks for me.

i can tell you right now, before it gets worse for you, go to ecstuning.com and get the hitachi coil pack set of 4, and get some new spark plugs, i also had this jerking, and the cat. turned racing rotor red, thank god this happened at night cause then i could notice it... the reason the cat. was hot was because all the fuel from one of my cylinders was pushing out raw, and clogging the cat. its doing the same for you now...this is a known problem with the B6, just get the R version, or like i did the hitachi coil packs, youll thank me later!!
