Default Purchase 2003 1.8T or 3.0L?

Hi guys...

Looking to purchase a 2003 A4 Quattro w/ about 100k or so on it. Overall which is the better one to choose? The 1.8T or the 3.0L? This will be my daily driver, I work only a few minutes from home and I do not plan on upgrading it at all.

Thanks in advance!

At that mileage be ready to change the timing belt.

If I chose one with around 150k I'm assuming the belt would have been changed? Thanks for the help thus far...

With that mileage I would hope so, but if there is no proof. Do the TB asap.

+1. Without records to verify, at 150k the previous owner may have been(hopefully) proactive with the maintenance. T-Belt could have been changed out anywhere from 65k-90k which means its about time and possibly overdue for another one.

Default Chose Neither

The 2003 A4 is riddled with problems, I would stay away from it unless you have a hefty bank account...I own a 2003 1.8T purchased at 62K.

Either way, do your research and make an informed decision.

Good Luck!!

^riddled with relatively inexpensive component failures that with a Bentley repair manual(www.bentleypublishers.com) and vag-com (www.ross-tech.com) are relatively easy DIY procedures for the modest wrench. The major faults i.e. engine and transmission) seem to be related to types of fluids(synthetics vs. dino, aftermarket vs. OEM) used and frequency and or lack of changes. Changes that should be taken when needed and likely ahead of recommended schedules designed by the manufacturer.

I have a 2003 A4 3.0 quattro with 70,000 miles. Top of the line. It's had almost $4000 in repairs in the last 18 months. Do yourself a favor and find something reliable. If you're that into Audi then you want to check timing belt, wheel bearings (mine started to go at 55,000), steering pump (I've replaced 3).
