Quick Satellite Radio question
I have a 2003 A4 1.8T Quattro (Sedan) with the Bose Symphony system, no navigation. I was wondering how to tell if the car is XM (preferrable) or Sirius ready, and what I would need. I like a clean factory look, and the tight integration with the driver display in between the speedo and tach, so aftermarket head unit is out of the question (until I find an Eclipse in dash unit with full display, which will be a while). So my question is, can it be integrated? I thought some A4's came with the satellite radio, I just don't know what years or what to buy. Any help is appreciated, and I couldn't find anything in the search and reading through the first 60+ pages in the B6 A4 section revealed nothing either. Thanks!
Does your car have the "shark fin" (satellite antenna) on the exterior roof? If so then you're car is already wired for satellite, you just need to purchase the receiver (you can choose either XM or Sirius) at that point. The receiver plugs into a prewired harness accessible in the left-hand side of your trunk. If you don't have the antenna on the roof already then, I'd suggest getting an aftermarket setup. Hope this helps....
Why even worry about which one it has? Sirius bought XM, they will combine the services with packages starting in October/November. If you get an aftermarket receiver, get the Sirius tuner, Xm is not as good in build quality and like I said, Xm is now Sirius!
A lot of my friends have XM, so I know it works, I'm not so much concerned about brand but that would have been my preference. So the Sirius/XM merger got approved? I had been following that briefly but kinda lost track as news started to stagnate. I think I'll wait until they merge to do anything, lol I remember when Amp'd was accepting new customers even after they announced that they were bankrupt and were canceling service to all their current customers. Right up until the day they stopped, haha.
yep merger approved month or so ago, new plans will be coming out soon. They are going to do a la carte programming or offer both services for around $18. it will be a year or two before the two are completely one company under one service. I just went with Sirius for Stern in 2005 when he announced he was moving to Sirius.
