Default Running problems - where to start?

'02 1.8; 110 K miles. Running normally at highway speeds then suddenly started sputtering/misfiring. Check engine light on, limped home. Runs normal at idle and will rev with very slight pedal, however, misfires if any load or accelerating. Need help trouble shooting. Have not read codes as I did not want to drive in this condition to local shop/auto store. Note that check engine light flashed on, however, stops flashing at idle.

thanks...

we always start with coilpacks. you need to check the codes, or go rent the code reader from autozone.

has your timing belt been done?

i was wondering if anyone could help me out. ive been converting an a4 to a s4 and for some reason i cant seem to find where the drive by wire is on the s4 dash wiring harness. i was thinking does something plug into the harness and i need to get the wire or do i just have the wrong harness.

I think you need to start your own thread, as your question seem unrelated to the original post. You are lilely to get more response directed toward your issue that way, and you won't hijack someone else's thread.

I replaced the timing belt @ 85K, never had to replace coil packs...I will look for the DIY thread and get the codes read...
