Salvage Value Question: what is it worth??
OK, I have a 2003 a4 with a dead engine. New head and new turbo, the lower end has precipitously lost compression (standard compression gives 145, 110, 145, 105 when engine is hot, cylinders two and four have decayed about 20 pound each in the last 200 miles of driving, leak down test air whistles into crankcase for cylinders two and four).
Car has 85000 miles on it, is a manual transmission. Tires are in good shape and I have an extra set of winter tires/rims.
SO, WHAT IS IT WORTH. If I rebuild it, my rough guess is that I will put between 2000 and 2500 into it in machine shop charges and parts. I can also sell it (full disclosure of engine trauma) and spend my time doing other things. I would appreciate your thoughts on what it is worth so that I can figure out my next step.
Car is in Denver.
Thanks
