Default Should I buy this A4?

I'm 17 years old and considering buying my first car. Hopefully it would last me at least 5 years! This is a huge purchase for me so I'm wanting to be as sure as possible I'm not getting a dud, and/or a money pit.

Here's the sellers description in case the link isn't working.

2002 AUDI A4

Up for sale is a 2002 Audi A4. Has 98k miles. 3.0L engine. All wheel drive. Runs and drives but the valves are making noise. Asking $3300 OBO.
As you can see there is a problem, the valves are making noise. Now I'm wondering if this is a serious problem, and how much it would potentially cost to repair.

He's asking $3300, is that fair?

I would definitely be taking it to someone to have it checked out before buying, assuming he's okay with that.

I know the information is vague, but any help would be much appreciated!

pass pass pass.

there's a known engine issue that will likely cost thousands to fix-and there's probably more broken than just the valves.

if it's your first car, buy something reliable in that budget- or if you're set on an A4, save more money and buy one that won't need a serious repair.

I'm 40 and that car scares the crap outta me. I texted the seller about it and never got a response. My thought was offer them 2K and plan on getting a used motor, swapping it in, and just keeping the junk motor for parts. I can do this kind of work myself, can you? If not, I'd pass.

I have a 17 year old son who would also love to have an A4. But as I point out to him daily, his POS 2000 Explorer may not be as cool as an A4, but it starts every time he turns the key, costs next to nothing to work on, and has 4WD. God, I sound just like my dad.
