Default Speakers

So for some reason, my left speakers cut out every now and then, usually at low volumes. Doesn't necessarily sound like they're blown or anything, because when they're working, they don't crackle or anything. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Does it sound to anyone like bad wiring somewhere in the car, like in the connection to the speakers, or in the head unit? I'd really hate to have to check all the left-hand speaker wiring...

(I have the Symphony II stereo in an '04 A4).

i normally bang my door and the problem will go away for a couple of days. I suspect the wires get pulled when the door opens and losing connection where the black cover is.

I have the same problem except mine happens to both front right and left speakers. Both speakers on either side will go off (tweeter and mid) but both sides have never went off at the same time. I've found if you increase the volume by 3 or 4 it will usually come back on, which hitting the door usually works to. I've read there was a TSB on this issue but I've yet to find one. If anyone knows or finds a fix for this please let us know, it's very annoying!

I'm glad this isn't as much of an anomaly as I thought it was. You're right, that usually just the quick volume increase or banging on the door helps, but I sortof feel like this type of thing just shouldn't happen, and my girlfriend always thinks I'm trying to drown out her talking! (Most of the time, I'm just trying to fix the sound...)

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it permanently on their own?

There is a TSB on this, I went to a dealer not long ago for the same exact issue. According to their bill they cleaned out the connectors in the door. I need to remember to look up their statement of work maybe could give you more info.

Sorry for my newbism, but what's a TSB, and what does that entail? I understand from reading elsewhere that it's a "technical service bulletin," but does that mean I don't have to pay for that type of repair, or just that they know about it and know how to fix it?

I had the same problem. Since dealer couldn't fix it so I figured just upgrade speakers will help. Nope... I upgraded all speakers to Polk Audio (I had non-Bose before) and still have the same issue. So I guess this is nothing to do with speakers. It might caused by the head unit.

TSB means that they know what is wrong and how to fix it. I believe with new car warranty it would be covered but not for certified used. Mine wasn't covered for instance it cost me an hour's fee in labor plus tax.

Nothing to do with the headunit it is the wiring running through the door to your speakers.

I've got the same thing in my passenger side door. Has anyone tried to fix it on their own? I might try cleaning all of the connections in the door and see if that helps. Is there any way to get a copy of the TSB?
