Stock Program?
I have an 02 A4 1.8T and I noticed that there is 2 stock programs on the car. When I bought the car the guy that sold it to me said that he thought the Cpu had been "flashed" to get more horse out of the stock engine. Normally program number 1 is whats on and I have never switched to number two but if I go passed number 2 the message center just goes blank( like no mpgs, hours, fuel life). What exactly does that mean? Is that the "flashed mode"?
If you're clicking the button on the bottom of the windshield wiper stalk, you're changing between display modes for the display. This button has nothing whatsoever to do with changing programs in the ECU. You're switching between current trip data (mode 1), cumulative since last reset (2) and off. *If* the car has an ECU flashed by APR, there's some sort of sequence you can do with the cruise control stalk to switch ECU programs.
That makes a little more sense than what I thought. Thanks for the quick reply. I have never messed with the cruise control stalk but I am going to go to APR's website to see how to do it and to see if the guy that I bought the car from is a liar or not. He gave me a huge list of things that had been done to the car when I bought it but I would say that 90% of the stuff he listed hadent been touched. Oh well I guess thats what I get for not going to an Audi dealer.
Well, it's also possible that it's got a flash from somewhere other than APR, and if that's the case, it may or may not switch programs at all, let alone by APR's method with the cruise control stick. I guess the question I'd have had for a seller in that situation would be "can I see the receipts for that work?"
To check to see if it is APR, make sure the cruise is in on position (stick towards to steering wheel). Turn the key to aux. Press the button at the end of the stick. Hold it down until the check engine light starts to flash. Program one is a slow flash, program 2 is a faster flash.
If it is not APR then maybe one of the GIAC folks can share the sequencing for that. I hope this help.
