i have a 2004 audi quatro 3.0 convertible. when does the timing belt need to be changed? how much does it usually run? what else is needed or goes at 100k? does the auto tranny need to be serviced?

What is your mileage? Do you have the car manual hidden on the compartment underneath the steering wheel? If you find it, then it contains details about your maintenance schedule.

I have an 03 B6 A4 Avant and the manual said the timing belt must be replaced at 105K miles. However, I have read in these forums and elsewhere that replacing the timing belt at 80-85K is smarter, so that you can avoid the heartache when a 'premature' timing belt failure actually do happen.

If you dont know when it was done as you are a new owner, have it done. If you just haven't had it done and it's at 100k DO IT NOW! I had one break on mine and Just parts and machine work was $2200. A $7-800 service is cheap.

Default It's done

I had the timing belt, water pump, cam seals and plugs replaced ( because of check engine light ), for $1350. I hope it keeps on chugging
