Default Timing Belt Change on 1.8T

Hello all,

I bought my 04 A4 1.8T FWD about a year ago and it was missing the owner's manual. When I have inquired about the mileage by which the timing belt needs to be changed, I have heard both 80K and 105K for my car.

Do any of you know which it is, or if it is a different mileage? I want to make sure I change it before it breaks and damages the valves.

Thanks,

Matt

The manual says 105k, audi has changed that to 80k, and they have been known to start breaking at 45k. I just did mine last month at 95k and it was in bad shape. What's your mileage? There is actually a class action suit about these in the courts right now.

The thing is that new Audi's bulletin says it should be changed at around 85K. But it might go bad at 65K or can be in good condition at 100K, u cant rally predict that unless u take a look on your actual belt/water pump.
how many miles do u currenlty have?

Oh and are you sure the manual is not in the slot below the steering column? It can be easily missed if you don't know where it's supposed to be!

Safest bet is to change your belt at 75K, I would not wait as long as 85K. I have seen waterpump failures at high 60K miles. If you're in the tri-state and need the job done for a good price, PM me

Mine was just replaced - It made it to 95K and the dealership was on me since about 90K.

Youre at 150k with no new belt? Have you had the car since new? If not it was most likely changed before.
