Default Tiptronic or not

Sorry for being a donkey newbie. I have been reading posts on this forum and Audizine for the past couple of days. I for the life of me can't figure out if I have Tiptronic or not. I own a A4 B6 1.8T with, I believe, the CVT transmission. If I have this transmission, I can't have a Tiptonic one right? I have read the owner's manual, and it stated that even if you own a CVT transmission, you can still putthe car intoTiptronic mode. I don't feel any gear changes when flooring the car (CVT?),but I still can move the lever to the right to do manual gear changes. So what is it?

On anothernote. I already have the APR stage 1 chip. Is the stage 1+ really worth it? Will I get noticable gains? Or should I just save my money and dive into a stage 2 or stage 3 kit?

Thanks for the help. Flame away if need be.

Go ahead and take a look at this: http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/to...tiptronic.html

You have the tiptronic.

Thanks for the link. So how does the CVT feel? I have driven Nissan's CVT and they pretty much feel the same to me. Has anyone come out with a Tip chip yet for the B6s?

If when you go into Tiptronic mode you see the dashboard indicator showing gears 1 through 5 or 1 through 6 (depending on what year the car is) then you have a conventional transmission with the Tiptronic feature. If it does not show gear selection then it is a CVT. As for chipping it beyond the Stage-I, I've been told by the guys at APR that anything beyond the Stage-I+ is a waste of money on the auto transmission cars. I'm just going to do a Stage-I+ on my Avant. I may even just go Stage-I. I like the idea of still being able to switch back to stock and run 87 octane if necessary.

Okay went out and checked it out. When manual gear change is selected, the gearsshown are1 thru 6. Okay after reading the posts, which is it? Conventional wisdom would tell me that it is a Tip. So what do you guys think (Panda and Beefy)? I guess I'll also call APR and talk to them about the stages and see what they would reccommend. It seems like a bummer that anything over stage 1+ would not be worth it for auto. guys.
