Default Turbo Bad! What to do?

Ok, so i have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro 5 speed. Tonight I Found out my turbo is either already blown or on its last legs; Either Way its time for a new turbo. I was planning on getting APR stage 1 chip for Christmas but since this has come up i guess i will be trying a find a used Ko4 turbo. My Question is, do i need to do anything to my car before the Ko4 turbo goes in to make sure parts in the car don't go bad under strain? I know the Ko4 will be of almost no power gains over the Ko3 without the chip. I already have a AFE pro intake stage 2 and a 007 forge DV valve. I guess i will get the chip when i get another job.
Thanks

other then required maintenance you should be good. You'll need a k04 tune, I'd check out motoza performance, they have a hybrid k04 tune for 489 dollars that can get up to 290 hp and 300 tq, on 93 octance, advertised anyway. Ofcourse that could require extra stuff like injectors, fuel pump, etc.

A stage 1 $500 APR tune wouldn't do it?

You could run just a stage 1 tune but in order to fully optimize the K04 you'll want a K04 tune.

I also would suggest picking up one of our K04 install kits - it comes with all the gaskets, bolts, studs, and washers needed to install your new turbo.

Let me know if you have any questions.

No, a stage 1 apr tune would get you like 200 hp on 91 octane, advertised. It's for a stock A4. If you got a k04, you would need a k04 tune, and the motoza performance would probably be your cheapest bet, and it get pretty good reviews, I read up on a forum post in audizine, and the people that went with motoza seemed happy. And it gives you the same, at half the price, and there's no need to send in your ecu. I would seriously check it out if I were you.

apr's flash is 499, and they have the flash option which you just take the car there and flash it through the obd2 port.

for the OP, the K04 will help in higher end where the K03 falls on its face. it will help sustain pressure to the higher end. if you've ever driven in a stock car with stage 1 or 1+ you'l know what im talking about.

with the K04 tune from APR you would need injectors(either apr{which are modified audi TT225 injectors} or audi tt225 injectors) <- they are 386/380cc injectors.

also you may or may not need to change the intake coupler to turbo housing. the stock intake tube from the K03 does not fit well unless you manage to stretch it somehow.

on another note, it be wise decision to upgrade to a front mount intercooler. its not required but recommended. even on stage 1 it will make a world of difference. on the stock SMIC you can maybe get 2-3 hard pulls out of it before the car feels like its lacking power or tired. this is because the smic becomes heatsoaked and can no longer cool the pressurized charge coming in until you let it cool down. cooler air=more power, safer driving conditions.
