I have 44K on my 2006 A4 2.0t quattro. I guess I will be making an appointment to get the cam follower checked. If I get any greif, I will be bringing the TSB on the issue with me and show it to the dealer. I found and printed a copy of it. I also have the original "C" version of the PCV valve. It isn't causing a problem now, but I wonder if I should go ahead and get the lastest revision of that installed too. I am fortunatly not using oil, which is a symptom of a bad PVC.

That is not true. That is an assumption on a thread written 2 years ago. There is alot more info out there that is more up to date. It is a common failure on all 2.0t's, even with a bone stock car. I will put money down that says you need a new follower even if you checked it at 20k miles. The protective coating wears off easy and once that is gone you could have potential for problems at anytime there after.

There is a bulletin for it, so they should know about it. But if they check and don't find significant wear, you have to pay for the service time. So it's better to check yourself first to see if there's wear, and if there is bring it in to have them replace it under warranty.

 

wow. what a PITA. so do all high pressure direct injection fuel pumps have this problem? is the real problem the spring for the pump? isn't there oil in there to keep the friction down?

 

Audi has a new system for the B8 that uses a roller, supposed to eliminate friction and therefore this problem. And there's a shop that's put together a roller setup for our cars, but it's kind of expensive: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4484254&page=8

 

Roller Kit is not worth the effort and cost involved. Just change your follower every 30-40k. I mean how many does that end up being? It's just too simple.

 

When my PCV went bad I had oil being pushed through the oil filler cap. I did not burn any excessive oil. Also my MPG dropped abit as well as boost performance. Once my PCV was replaced, it was like I had a new engine!

As far as the Cam follower, I am defiantly going to have Audi check mine when I go in for my 35tmls inspection this spring. Currently I am at 28tmls, and do not notice anything wrong (yet?).
