Default 2005 A4 1.8T vs. 2005.5 A4 2.0T-Is the 2.0T worth the extra coin?

Within the next week I am planning on buying a 2005 or 2005.5/2006 Audi A4 sedan/wagon quattro. I drove a A4 quattro with the 1.8T engine and it felt great, but I noticed reliability reviews in Consumer Reports got much better for A4s in '05 vs. '04, and '06 is excellent. Being the scientist I am, I am thinking part of the reason is the 2.0T engine replacing the 1.8T in the middle of 2005. I plan to use the car for road trips, work and general all around. Reliability is my primary concern, I love the look and feel of the Audis and they have one of the best reliability records for a Euro brand car.

I am not a motor head and I know really only the basics concerning the cars, but I will bring up my intelligence level I am sure once I get a taste for the thrill of driving something nice for a change.

So A4 gurus. Is the extra cost of the 2.0T worth it over the 1.8T? Plus I think the grill on the 2005.5 and up is COOL!

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

I absolutely think the extra coin is worth it. It is a better more power engine. I thik it is a funner car to drive, it isgenerally nicer in all areas of performance. Many"audi-philes" didn't change to the 2.0T becuase they didn't like the new look. You are like mee itseems and you like the new grill etc. Plus depending on what car you get, youmight get a car with some warranty left, or even better a car that is a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) and have lots of warranty left.some are going for th 1.8T right now because there are lots of sound mods to choose from, where the 2.0T isbehindin the amount of mods available. But it doesn't really sound like that is what you are after. Go for the 2.0T, you will not be dissatisfied. I own a 2005.5 B7 A4 and Ilove it more than most of my family lol.

Go with the 2.0T, you wont be dissapointed.I test drove both. B6 and B7. Went with the B7 because it had 30 more horses
Worth every penny IMO

My car is a tank. It has been incredibly reliable.

This is a obvious answer! B7 way more good looking and if you chip it you dont have to replace the DV.

yeah that is how I am leaning. I was just curious about the reliability of the engines. I know the 1.8T has a good track record, but I was just curious if the 2.0T is better. However, the answer from you gracious folks say, it is a no brainer, go with the 2.0T.

I found a 06 Avant that under $30K with around 30k miles. I am a wagon kind of guy, more practical for my life style.

What do you mean? The DV is still the weak point and still gives out under increased pressure from chipping.
