Default 65k serv, dealer vs Pep Boys

This will be my last service while still under warranty (extended.) Does anybody see a reason to pay $200.00 to the dealer for this service vs $60.00 to Pep Boys? Both doing the same, and both using Synthetic oil
Can a shop like Pep Boys re-set my "dashboard service reminder"
Thanks very much

I wouldn't trust Pep Boys with a Ford Pinto, but it's your car. Same goes for Jiffy Lube. All either of those will do is change the oil (and do a sloppy, hurried job of it). If you just want an oil change, tell the dealership to just do the oil change, mine charges $69 for that and washes the car too.

Included in the full mileage interval service at the stealership is a computer diagnostic which will give you that last chance to get anything that shows up fixed under warranty. Is it a little overpriced? Sure, but if you're about to roll out of warranty, I'd consider it insurance.

Haha.... Its like KingWulgar said.... You get what you pay for.

You want a no brand paper filter that will start to fall apart in 1,000 miles and quakerstate oil.

Some one to look over your car..... But not really know what common issues to look for.

Its your last service. I think it would be common sense to go to the dealer. Cause your going to want any and everything that might be wrong with your car fixed before it goes out.

I just had my car into the dealer for the 65,000 mile service. All it was is an oil change, Nothing more. I asked the dealer, and they showed me the maintenance schedule. All I paid for was an oil change. Since I bought the car there, it's only $40 for 5w40 full synthetic VW approved oil.

You all do realize that when you take your car to the dealer it isn't usually a mechanic that does the oil changes? They use what they call oil/lube techs and some dealers use their porters to do that job. I have a couple of horror stories from what dealers have done to cars including:

1. Leaving a car with the engine running after they removed the old oil and before putting in the new oil

2. Lifting a car incorrectly and having it fall of the lift

3. Returing a car to a customer and not tighting the lugs. Customer found that out when they pulled onto the frontage raod and front end dropped on them.

There are plenty more. If it is just an oil change you can go about anywhere. You can also request a certain type of filter/oil if they carry. On my previous Audi I went to Valvoline and brought my filter with me. I gave them the filter and reciept and they deducted the cost of the filter from their fee. Worked out well for me (except I had to get the filter before hand).

I guess I made the right choice going to the dealer. There was a leak on both engine mounts , warranty took care of that.
I bet there are plenty of incidents supporting either choice.
Done deal, thanks guys.
