Default A4 b7 1.8t

Hi,

I recently purchased a 2005.5 A4 1.8T (120kw version) and love it so far. I bought it in the hopes of modifying it a little and keeping it for several years.

Looking around on the net for chips, exhaust, test pipe and other performance parts keeps sending me to 2.0T and 4.2 engine variants, or to the B5/B6 1.8T engine, with no information on increasing power from the B7 1.8T. Can someone suggest companies to look at for parts, or anything else for information on increasing power?

Thanks,
Paul

You must be across the pond somewhere I take it? The B7 is only offered with the 2.0t or 3.2 motor in America, which is most likely the reason that's the only results that come up in a search. As I understand it, and I could be wrong, but most of the manufacturers for aftermarket upgrades are located here, and hence make parts and tunes for what is available here. I'd try Googling something along the lines of "aftermarket parts for 2005.5 Audi a4 1.8t in <insert your country here>" and see if you have better luck that way.

The 1.8t 163/190hp was also in the A4 B6, so there should be some tuning out there for yours!

You can check MTM they have tuning for the B7 1.8t 163hp, and they are scattered around Europe and the US.

Good luck!

Thanks guys,

I'm from Australia, so its a bit of a swim.

MTM have a setup in Australia too, sounds like a good start. I was wondering if the B6 motor was the same one. I'll make some calls to tuning companies next week, I'm sure they will know. I have an exhaust guy in mind to get a custom setup, but want to know tuning options before I go down that path.

I was planning on getting the B6 1.8, but found an awesome deal on the B7 and rushed into it a bit. I didnt realise there was so much tuning available for the B7 2.0, didnt seem to be much for the B6 2.0 so I didnt look into it.

I believe the engines are the same (163hp-225nm). The B6 2.0 was either 130hp or the 2.0FSI 150hp non-turbo versions. So tuning for these types are limited to none.

And good deal on the B7, it had a lot of improvments over the B6. So no regrets there.

Good luck!

I had a look under the hood at the engine code (I'm a bit slow some days). Its the BFB engine which i believe is the same as the B6 1.8T engine. There are two APR distributors in my city so I might give one of them a call, or drop in and have a chat. They seem to be the most recommended / reliable chip according to the forums.

I didnt realise the B6 2.0 and the B7 2.0 was so different, I just assumed tuning was limited. Still, prefer a B7 1.8 to a B6 1.8

Sounds good! Even with the 1st chip upgrade you would notice a differance. And yes, the B6 and B7 2.0 were different. The B7 got the std 130hp version but also the 2.0TFSI with 170/200, & 220hp. Whether you have the 1.8T or 2.0T the B7 is a great car and lots of fun to drive. I actually liked it better than the B8 version. I am waiting to see how the new A3 sedan or maybe the A4 B9 looks in the future.

Good luck!

I'm looking at maybe buying a 2006 1.8 T. It's definately been sold and serviced here in the US. I don't see much about it here. I see a lot about the 2.0 T. Anyway, is this a B7? Is this a good choice? I read the sticks, do the apply to this model as well? (cam follower, coil pack etc.). Just can't seem to find much info on this particular model. Oh and it's not Quattro.
Thanks for replies!

If you take the engine cover off (3 plastic 'screw' type clips) there is a tag on the front right of the engine with an engine code. Im assuming it will be the BFB engine as well. this is the same as the B6 1.8t engine which has lots of tuning options. As for cam follower, carbon build up, PCV and DV issues I have no idea. Still need to check the B6 forums and see what the issues are.

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at the B5 threads.
