A4 oil filter removal

A4 oil filter removal
So last weekend i decided to change the oil on my 2008 A4 (at 40,000mi, in between scheduled services). Thanks to the write-up at Audiction.com | A Blog for Audi Addicts, I had the right sockets and oil filter drain tool.
My only problem was removing the oil filter housing. This thing would not budge no matter what. I even used a mallet to hit the socket wrench handle, but no go. Since i didn't want to break anything by beating on it further, i left the filter in there since it will get replaced by Audi at 45,000mi.
Has anybody had this issue? I'm assuming the filter housing is not threaded backwards but it wouldn't budge either way. My guess is that the guys at the Audi dealership are using an impact wrench to take this thing off/on. However it seems that much force would ruin the seals or possibly break the filter housing which seems to be plastic.

I doubt they would use an impact wrench, like you said it is all plastic...I have had them stuck on there pretty good before on my 07, basically I stand over the engine and reach down and grab the filter, I wear gloves as to get a good grip but a rag might help and then grab as good with both hands and turn, it will come off

Had the same problem, used wrench to wiggle it loose before taking it off by hand, now my problem is a slight leak from the filter housing. It leaks a tiny bit and then just stop after driving for a while, I dont see any cracks on it and the threads look fine. I'm a little worried now that I probably have to buy a new one

I am assuming you misunderstood them. It takes between 4.5 to 5 qts with an oil/filter change. Put in 4.5 qts and start it up for 15-20 seconds and shut it off. Wait a minute and check the oil and fill to the line. If you have 8.5 qts in the system you need to drain out 4 qts before you cause engine damage.
