Default A4 vs R32

Hey all,

New to the forums. Need some input on buying an A4 2.0T vs a VW R32.

The points I'm wondering are:

1) overall fun factor
2) daily drivability
3) insurance cost
4) modding potential

Thanks!

The Audi is fun, a good daily driver, my insurance is $100/mo (I'm 23, in LA area), and lots of modding potential. I don't know about the VW.

i doubt many ppl here will be able to tell you about the R32, you will probably have to go on a VW forum for that if you havent already done so

R32 has a ton of modding potential. you can get cams, pistons, rods, superchargers, single or twin turbo systems up to about 550-650 hp. The 2.0T also has a wide range of tuning but the FSI is expensive to-up grade. Tough to say on insurance, the R would probably be more because its a "sports car". Imo the R would probably be more fun, (the sound alone gives it that) and its a little lighter. Everyday driving goes to the A4 only because the fuel economy would be better and the suspension would be softer but the R is still very good. If I had to give up my A6, I would look for an R, a S4 or a S6 but thays cause I want something more on the sporty side than the comfy side. Plus the 2.0T with tip is very rough at idle, the VR6 is smooth as silk! In that case I would buy the R32, its all VW group so the quallity is still high up there.

1) overall fun factor - R32.
2) daily drivability - A4. More comfort and better mileage. FYI, A4's have torsen awd system. It's 95% mechanical with a 50/50 split on power. R32's have haldex awd. 95% electronic and primarily a fwd system with the rear wheels getting power on rare occasions. If you plan on driving in the snow, the A4 would be a better option.
3) insurance cost - A4. Every insurance company knows the stats on the R. Which is why it will be a lot more to insure.
4) modding potential - Once you go beyond 250whp, both are expensive to upgrade.
