Default air filter advice?

so im lookin to replace my stock air filter. my car is a CPO and iv had it for 2 years now and it has 47k miles. im wondering if it is worth it to get a k&n or AFE filter for $50 cuz they are washable and reusable and can save money in the long run. but im feelin kinda iffy about oiling the air filter. does anyone use this type of filter? does it cuz problems with oil being pulled thru the intake system? are the 'dry' washable filters better?

thanks

Whoa. Granted, it's not going to be a performance gain, but they do last longer and are easily cleaned/re-oiled (just make sure you have a spare paper filter or don't need the car for a day as the filter needs to dry fully before re-oiling). I've been really happy with the K&N in our Jeep for 130k miles and not having to constantly buy paper filters all the time.

EDIT: With a 55k miles change interval, the K&N isn't worth it. You have to clean it that often anyway. Most cars I've dealt with, 10-15k is pushing it (which is why I've always bought a K&N or other cleanable filter).

Here's a good reference: http://microsites.audiusa.com/ngw/10...enance2010.pdf

im not looking for any high performance gains, i just want to save money in the long run. i have not changed the air filter on my car yet and have noticed some loss in MPG so i was thinking it was time for a new one. the local autozone has some cheap ones for like $15 and ecstuning has some "oem" ones for around $25. but if i start changing the air filter every 12-15k miles, it would be cheaper to get a reusable/washable one.

the OEM ones will remove/filter out better than the K&N or foam filters. the OEM brand is higher quality than fram. they need replacement every, what?, three oil changes.

if you want to save money, don't try to do it with your car. you always get what you pay for. cut back on other things to save money. for example, i cut back on alot of booze and it saves me more money in a few weeks than 20 years worth of air filters.

Yuummm Booze. I always liked K&N stuff on my older cars. These not so much. I would just buy a couple OEM's and replace as needed. Heck 2 may last you the rest of the time you own it.
