yes, fmic would replace the factory one

if you were to get the fmic you should look into either going catless or getting a highflo cat and doing a stage 2 flash on your ECU because your car would need to be reprogrammed to handle the additional mods that you installed...

i sort of agree with audi tech but i dont think you would need a bigger turbo as much as you would need to the ECU to be reflashed and have the turbo create a higher PSI and work a little harder

from what ive heard the FMIC is another good bang for you buck and adds around 10-15 hp to your car because the original side mount isnt very efficient

Don't waste your money on a FMIC until you have reached stage 2+ and have nothing left to buy. You will not notice it on anything near stock.

Unless you think they are pretty.

haha thanks guys.
yea a FMIC would be my last concern but they do look good when done right lol
im just kinda brainstorming for ideas about air intakes. i know the oem is good, and carbonio is the most common but its not worth the money for me and i dont care for the looks of it. i wanna do something different, like and AEM cai or making a few custom pipes like i said earlier.

p.s. ive read that a lot of people can hear their stock DV while driving. ive tried to listen for it but cant notice anything. does it sound 'like' a blow off valve? how loud is it? i dont think there is a boost problem since my car is fairly new and less than 30k miles. just wondering

thanks again

the closest thing i think it sounds like is like an asthma inhaler when it goes "paaaahhhh" right after you shift

don't get the AEM one, and dont try different pipes.....well at least metal ones because the turbo will make those metal ones hot thus making your ''cai'' pointless,

the only reason behind the carbonio being one the one that doesn;t lose hp is that it has a massive heat shield that protects the air from getting hot via the engine, it still connects to the factory snorkel and is a basically a more pourous (sp?) filter then the stock, i know you have your heart set on an intake and thats cool and all just for the $ you would spend on it you could get a rear rs4 sway bar that improves handling, and a bullet proof bsh pcv valve fix.....more mods more happy

haha ok then

what if i only replaced the rubber hose that goes from the IC to the intake manifold/throttle body? (see pics above)
would an aluminum pipe be any worse than the stock rubber one? i know heat is the enemy here but i dont think an aluminum pipe would hurt since the engine bay temp would be the same and aluminum doesnt hold heat for very long.

you could also wrap the pvc in a sheet of carbon fiber and make it look pretty damn sweet
