Am I crazy?
Greeting's All,
I am considering purchasing an A4 Avant 3.2 S Line with over 233K Miles on the odometer.
The car had 1 previous owner. He did a lot of long distance commuting (obviously) and had the vehicle service at the local dealer in CA.
I had a pre purchase inspection performed and there are some "oil leaks around the valve covers, 'profuse' amount of oil on the backside of passenger side of the cylinder head and on motor..."
Just looking for a sounding board here. I've heard the 3.2 motor is a good one, but am not sure whether it matters with the amount of miles this car has.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Wow that's a lot of miles. what year? Is there any work history on it? Eventually that thing is going to need a rebuild, I don't care how well it was maintained, that's a lot of miles on a motor if it hasn't had any work yet. Not to mention the trans might need attention, basically anything mechanical I'd be scared of with that many miles, unless there was good record of what was done.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL!!!!
You may be able to drive it another 50k without issue.Or 5k,never can tell. But with a engine rebuild,it should last another 200k.
I had a Nissan with 214k before I bought my Audi 3years ago last Sept.If the body wasn't rusting out,I'd still be driving that riceburner.Cars nowadays will last a long time if you maintain them properly. The stickies up top of the page are a good start.
Seems like alot of people on this particular section of the site have the 2.0 engine.Or maybe it's what I pay attention to.If the price is right,go for it.
Anyhow good luck!

Valve cover gaskets are super easy DIYs.
Thanks Everyone for the kind replies.
I've passed on the Avant due in part to the shadiness of the dealer.
I do like Audi, having owned a 01 Allroad. However, I know that the sophisticated engineering can (after warranty) can be something of a liability.
I'm now looking at an 03 BMW X5 3.0 w 5sp manual trans. (super clean w 156K miles)
I suppose we are all slaves to these damn machines we love to drive! (regardless of Marquee)
Cheers,
Eric
