Default B7 headlight bulb removal

Does anybody know the proper way of removing headlight bulbs from a B7 A4? I have seen many people on this as well as other forums ask the very same question, but it always seems to fall short in terms of explanation. I have heard that you need to take the whole headlight out in B6's but that is not the case for B7 models. My headlight is blown out and Audi is seriously charging me $70 to replace a bulb..RIDICULOUS! Any help on this topic is appreciated.

If B7 and Xenons, plus if you want to do it right, bumper has to come off and this probably why you were quoted $70

Yeah... it's a pain. Actually, $70 seems pretty low for what I'd expect them to charge.

It's just regular halogen bulbs...does that make any difference?

yes it does.

you need to completely unscrew center bolt that holds the headlight, and you need to loosen 2 other bolts that are located on the sides. the outer bolt is not visible and you will need a long torx driver to unscrew it. once its done, the headlight will move forward about an inch or two. This will give you room to replace the bulb. Then just open the waterproof cover, unplug the connector, and take out the bulb. On the left side you also need to remove air duct, but thats easy.

if you have not replaced H7 bulbs before (like me), then it might be a bit of a pain to get the bulb itself out and in because of so little space. the bulb is held in place by that chrome thing which you will need to push down and pull the bulb out. To get it back in, you need to stick the top of the bulb correctly so that its locked and then push it back in so that it locks automatically by that ^ chrome "lock"

also it takes about 30 min. the first time, and about 15 min. after you know what you are doing. I took my time, mostly because i was afraid to break the bulb inside the headlight assembly

What year is your A4? The headlight housing doesn't seem like it'll slide out because the bumper is getting in the way.

To remove the headlight u need to remove the bumper, u just need to slide it about one inch forward and that can be done with procedure above

Thanks for your detailed help Kolyan2k, I got the connector out easy but am having some issues removing the clip you were talking about. Where do I exactly push down on the chrome part?

if u try to look inside the headlight where the bulb is, you will see the that chrome part thats holding the bulb in place. Its made the way when you push the bulb in, it locks in place, in order to remove the bulb you need to push that thing down and pull the bulb out at the same time.

getting the connector out is the easy part, now you will need all the extra space in order to get the bulb out.
