Default Brake Light Out

'07 Audi A4 w/Quattro Auto

I let my mom drive my Audi and noticed a beep when starting the car and going into reverse. Then I noticed in the dash, a yellow message that said "brake light". I guess my right brake light is out. Is this common? I also had a hard time starting the car after my mom drove it. I put the key in and turned and nothing happened. I took the key out and put it back in and it started on the third try. I haven't been able to make this happen again. What do you think happened?

Also, I don't have the manual so I am slowly trying to figure things out. Does the radio never turn off? Can you only mute it? I figured out the basics of the radio and CD changer but how do you mess with the speaker settings? What do the menu and sat buttons do?

You might actually have a manual. Look under the steering wheel, that's where it is stored.

Brake lights go out, just like every light bulb everywhere. I don't exactly know the life expectancy.

Press and hold the volume button and the radio will turn off.

Where would the manual be under the steering wheel? By the steering wheel adjustment lever?

There's a small shelf under the steering column. The manual should be on this shelf in is case.

Service is saying the bulb might be loose. They said the bulb is not covered under warranty. WTF? Even my old Saab's xenon's were covered under warranty.

More than likely an 1157 bulb - any parts store has them for a buck
& while an advanced system like xenon lighting is covered, no one covers other lights

Yeah. Auto parts store and should be a quick change. I had 3 go out in my B6 in about 50K worth of driving. Look for the screws and they are simple to find. I damn near gutted my trunk trying to get access on my B6 and it turned out to be alot easier than I made it.

On a side not I just got a letter extending the warranty on my 3rd brake light on my GTI. It's LED and I guess there have been some problems so I just got a warranty update. Funny.
