I concur that ceramic pads create a lot less brake dust. Pads should be replaced when the are 1/8 to 1/16 inch thick. Our original rotors are prone to heat cracking...or at least on the early b7s like mine. So thus the reason it was suggested to go ahead and replace the rotors...my indie and my dealer told me the same thing.... at least check them when you are checking your pad thickness

Are other B7 drivers finding more wear on the rear brake pads than on the fronts?

Just had front brake pads and rotors replaced on front at 43,500 miles on my 06 A4. Service writer said it was unusual for front to go out before the back. Said my back pads and rotors still look pretty good. My driving is mainly 80%city. Still have original Continental tires, but they are ready to be replaced. Was also told it was unusual to get that many miles out of these tires. I probably don't drive my car as agressively as most. Car is stock w/2.0 quattro, s-line, sport package.
