Broken white plastic rod for shifter
Hello,
New to the forum here. My son has a 2006 A4 automatic DSG. A while back his shifter could only move into drive & neutral & the key could not be removed from the ignition. I removed the gear cover & was able to remove the cotter pin attached to the white plastic rod that runs thru the center of the metal shifter. From there I was able to remove the plastic rod, which revealed that the rod had broke off at the base. Not having the proper tools, I naturally had to improvise. I placed crazy glue on the end of the rod, ran it thru the shifter housing & let it sit a good 15 min with pressure applied. From here it adhered enough to actually lift the broken piece inside, place the gear in park & eventually remove the key. For how long it will hold, I have no idea. That being said, how easy is it to replace that piece, how much does it usually cost, where can I buy it & from experience is there a better "temporary fix" until it can actually be fully replaced? Thank-you.
