Default Buying a 2007 a4 avant... Questions

Hi,
Sorry I'm completely new here and new to audi's in general. I'm buying a 2007 a4 avant S-line. Just a couple question: What should I look out for on these cars? Any specific maintenance that should have been done? Anything known to fail that may not have yet? (car has just under 100,000 miles) Did just have the coil packs, timing belt and pullies and everything recommended replaced+ fluids.

For the power potential is there any specific company that makes "chips" or does ECU tuning more popular than others or has better customer care? 200 hp unfortunately is a little underwhelming in my opinion, but I can't find any avants for reasonable prices with the v6, but luckily I don't have any qualms with modifying cars either.

Thanks for any help!

Not sure if you are buying the 2.0T 4cyc or the 3.0 6cyc. For modding you would be better off with the 2.0T. Lots of go fast parts for that engine including chips with multiple stages. The higher the stage the more parts you need to upgrade (fuel pump as an example).

Sounds like you covered most the main items that go bad. Another is the cam follower (lots of information on here about that if you have the 2.0T engine). In your model year they still tending to wear out. They are inexpensive and suppose to be pretty easy to change. I think most are doing theirs around 20 to 30k miles.

Get a code reader (even a cheap one from Walmart does the trick). It is will be very helpful in identifying any codes you may have pop up from time to time. You can also go by your locate auto parts store and have them pull any codes for you (I know Autozone will).

There's a ton of info on what to look for as far as common issues (PCV system, cam follower, DV, tip transmission torque convertor, timing belt/water pump, etc) in the Sticky at the top of the forum. Start there. I would steer clear of the FWD auto (honestly, I wouldn't bother with a FWD at all, but that's me) because of the CVT transmission. The quattro has a real automatic (or go manual for man-points).

I have an APR stage 1 tune because I got it cheap off a friend. I was never underwhelmed by the stock 2.0T, but with the tune it pulls a lot stronger than stock. If I were paying full retail, I probably would go with JHMotorsports. APR has moved on from our engines and isn't doing anything in the way of updating. JHM has been shown to be fully supporting us B7 owners still and is making (anecdotally) more power.
