Default Camshaft chain failure

I was driving my '06 A4 2.0T at about 20 mph when the engine died. It would not restart.

The Audi dealer says the camshaft chain broke and the pistons damaged the cylinder heads. They tell me that besides the chain, the the cylinder heads must be replaced.

Is this a common problem? The repair will require 15 hours of labor plus parts. Should I worry about other parts being damaged by this broken chain?

It's a CPO car with 33K miles. I've owned it for only 2 months. I did notice that the engine was unusually noisy in the days before the chain failure. I have not modified the car in any way but who knows what was done by the original owner.

That is really scary. Are you sure it was a chain? I was under the impression that all B7 2.0T's had a timing belt. Only the new B8 2.0T's came with a chain. Either way, that happening with a car that only had 33tmls and 3 years old is disturbing.

Audi originally called for the timing belt to be replaced at 75k miles, but they later increased that to 110k (at least for 2007), so it would seem that breaking at 33k is not common.
