Default Car Shakes once i hit 50mph.

THis is my first post. I've been browsing the forums since last year before I purchased my car.

I bought a CPO 05.5 a4 2.0t Quattro. 44k miles. I've since driven 4500 miles in a span of 8.5 months. Mostly highway. All pretty "gently."

Yesterday when I got on the highway the car began to shake once I reached 50mph. It felt like a tire was flat so I pulled over and checked it out. All was fine. Tires were at proper PSI, and visually everything looked good. I resumed my trip and once again it started shaking. I reached 60 and put the car into neutral. The car still shook as it coasted from 60 down to 50. I turned around and went home on a back road where my speed was below 35.

Does anyone know what this could be? Bearing, tire rod, alignment? The car was sitting in a garage after it was driven 35 highway miles the day before.

Check the torque on the wheel bolts, but I'm thinking a belt in the tire broke if the vibration was that bad.

i bet it's a tire problem. i "dealt" with vibration at highway speeds in the golf until the tire popped. turns out there was a screw jammed into it and that bulge caused the vibration. i put the new tire on and it's smooth like hot butter. check the tires and the balance.

Default car shakes at 50 mph

The symptoms of a wheel that is out of balance are:
• Vibration in the steering wheel at certain highway speeds.
• Vibration in the seat or floorboard at certain highway speeds.
• Scalloped or cupped wear pattern on the tires

Check the inside of your rims for snow. Happens to me all the time in MN. Drive through deep snow, and it cakes on the inside of the rim. Throws the tires off balance. Clean it out, and you'll be fine (if that's the problem).

I had a CV axle go bad with similar situations. I would check that!

+2 on out of balance.

If your car lost a wheel weight, then it would shake from being out of balance. If there is snow built up, you'd have the same problem.

It may have been some snow. I figured it would have been knocked out going that fast. I am taking it in anyway for a recall on a part so I'll just have them check it to make sure. Thanks for the tips

The car was shaking at 50mph cause it got so excited you were going to go fast...kind of like a hunting dog..thinking you would take it up to 135mph :-)

Keep those tires rotated and balanced and front end alligned 4sure.
