oceanwater - are YOU a troll?

OP - do you plan on going bigger turbo? If so, the main companies would be the way to go as they offer different flashes as you go bigger. These companies are and not limited to APR, GIAC, AWE Tuning, Revo, and so on.

If you simply only planning on doing a basic chip, consider Speed Tuning. They're actually doing a group buy right now if you head over to the B5 section. I believe they offer a 2.0T chip.

Note that the DV has to be upgraded when you chip the car. Also check for leaks.

Hi Kriptonik,

When you say upgraded, are you referriing to the updated OE revision, or something like the forge DV? My reason for asking is, I have a GIAC tune that I've been running for over a year now, but I'm on my original DV. The dealer who did the tune insisted that my stock DV would be fine....but lately I'm thinking maybe I'd upgrade/update just for peace of mind, and when I do, should I go with something like a forge or am I fine with the new OE version?

Thanks for your input.

p.s. I have a 2005.5 2.0t

Generally the stock DV would not hold up with the amount of boost after a chip. It will lasts you sometime but overall you'll want to replace it.

It really depends. Some people upgrade to the TT 225 DV for a bit less than what the Forge DV's would avaregely cost. I'd personally suggest a Forge one with interchangeable springs and they are made out of aluminum. A member here Emil also has a company that makes DV's similar to the Forge ones. Emil is a great guy and you'll get amazing customer service from him.

This is not true. The older revision diaphragm one, yes. The newer OE DV is piston driven and will hold up just fine with any of the stock programs from the major tuning companies. You'll be fine with the OE DV and I highly recommend ecstuning.com.

I had to replace my early rev DV not that long ago and I don't even have a chip. It was just toast.

^ Thanks for pointing that out. I completely forgot about the updated ones. Not all B7 came with it though and I'd still personally go with aftermarket.

The old DV's were completely useless. They're made of plastic to they'll break over time.

Some of the aftermarket DVs require periodic maintenance. I'd stick with the OE piston DV.

Alright so this is interesting, I finally had a chance to crawl under the car fully expecting to see an OEM DV. Nope, it's a Forge! The original owner (I'm second owner) must have installed it at some point. So now I'm wondering what sort of maintenance, if any, it requires. And how can I tell if I'm losing boost since there's no ECU connection, just a boost guage? VAGCOM? Thanks.
