Question Correct Gas Mileage ???????

I have a 2008 A4 2.0T fronttrak.

I'm currently getting on average 21-22 mpg when the tank runs out. Kinda surprised because I do a lot of highway driving.

Is that normal? I'm a pretty conservative driver.

Thank You!

how fast are you going? where do you live? have you ever done a "throttle body reset"? any excess weight in the car?
i live in upstate NY and the winters are very cold so my mileage drops about 5-6mpg in winter.
next time you get gas, do this lil trick.
1. with the car off, pull up on the e-brake
2. turn the key to ACC
3. floor the gas pedal for 3 seconds then turn the key all the way back but leave it in
4. release the gas pedal and wait 2 minutes
5. remove key from ignition and then reinsert and start car
proceed as normal but if you want to improve your mpg, accelerate slowly and dont speed. this should have told the car to re-learn your driving style so it'll use less gas but not sure exactly how long it will be re-learning
then clear your averages and what not and see if that makes a difference.

my avg. is 26-28 but i have quattro and a big dual sub bandpass box and amp

^ Definitely try that. Also, could be time for a tune up; when was the last time you changed your spark plugs, oil, snow and air filters, etc?

A fronttrak should definitely be seeing at least a little bit better than a Quattro, even with the cold-weather effect and especially with mostly highway; I can do 22-24 in current cold-*** temps on mostly highway (28-32 in summer, depending on how fast I feel like getting to Vegas ;p) and 19-21 mixed city/hwy in current temps (24-26 in summer) in my Quattro, so I see no reason you should be doing worse than I with half the drivetrain friction. Definitely try a tune up and the throttle body reset.

If you have half a brain with a wrench and can do the tuneup yourself, you shouldn't be more than $30-$40 in parts and 20 minutes of your time. Also, throw some quality fuel system cleaner through it. A bottle of redline in the gas tank with your next fillup will work wonders on all the carbon buildup you've probably got on the injectors and valves if you've never done a fuel treatment before.

Fuel injectors and changing spark plugs definitely improves gas mileage. Recently changed spark plugs and used fuel injector few times and as a result my gas mileage went up.

Thank you all!

I get 360 miles on a tank by the time the low fuel sensor turns on.

I change my oil n filter every 5k.

My air filter is very clean.

I average 30-32 on the highway, but the city driving brings it down my average.

What does the dealer do at the 45k service? Is it just spark plugs and air filter? I realize that the other things are all visual checks.

Are the spark plugs easy to replace? Do you all stick with original Audi plugs?

I appreciate your help!

Thank you

360 at the low fuel light!?! Sounds like everything is just fine- I'm lucky to break 325 for the whole tank with my rather -erm- spirited driving. Of course, that's a combo city/highway. Straight freeway I can make about 450 miles on the tank.

Agreed. Stop looking for problems you don't have. I usually get to 300 and the light comes on (40 miles to empty). I'm not complaining. It's better than my old Mustang used to get around town and much better than my wife's Grand Cherokee. It is nice to get nearly 500 miles on the same tank on the highway, though!

+1

And that's nearly 500 (for me at least) while hauling along at 80ish the whole way from salt lake to vegas; if I was patient enough to set the cruise at 65-70 and deal with how much longer that would take, I bet I could see it break 550 or more on the one tank.

It is better to get original Audi Plugs they are about $20 each at the dealership. In addition, it is very easy to replace them by yourself.

^That's definitely not necessary. They stock and sell Bosch or NGK, both of which you can get the exact same thing of at your local parts store IE autozone or the like for closer to $4 each. Yes, they are easy to do yourself, just need a spark plug socket, an 8 inch extension, and it wouldn't hurt to have a gap tool to make sure they're gapped where they're supposed to be.
