First Audi - Grinding while steering :(

i dont notice anything with mine but then again I NEVER turn the steering wheel when the car is sitting still. Keep us posted.

Would it be valid to say that the bushings still have some life in them because the sound only happens when its cold, so they arent bad enough to effect the control arms?
You can only tell if it's wearing into the control arms by inspecting them. I would still suggest getting it diagnosed at a local shop before just assuming that's it. They should be able to throw it up on a lift and look at them to see.

New bushings requires a shop press. Replacing the control arms can be DIY, but it's time consuming and easier with a lift. You pretty much have to take apart each corner.

My 2003 A4 did this, and all it turned out to be was the Power Steering Fluid. I went with a synthetic oil. About two years later I had add more again When driving I could not heaar the sound, only when manuvering into parking spaces.

I live in the corn fields of Ohio, So the winters here are fairly cold. My fluid on on the driver's side of engine compartment. I'd check the fluid first.
