First Audi - Grinding while steering :(

Holy crap thats alot hahah, i remember my dad replaced the control arms on his BMW when i was younger and i helped him and it took forever because he had to save money for the parts, now i understand why i guess lol. Well hopefully its just the bushings then.
Would it be valid to say that the bushings still have some life in them because the sound only happens when its cold, so they arent bad enough to effect the control arms?

New bushings requires a shop press. Replacing the control arms can be DIY, but it's time consuming and easier with a lift. You pretty much have to take apart each corner.

My 2003 A4 did this, and all it turned out to be was the Power Steering Fluid. I went with a synthetic oil. About two years later I had add more again When driving I could not heaar the sound, only when manuvering into parking spaces.
I live in the corn fields of Ohio, So the winters here are fairly cold. My fluid on on the driver's side of engine compartment. I'd check the fluid first.
