Default ****** dipstick

so yea, i was checking my oil yesterday and noticed the top dip stick spacer (?) was broke. there was a tiny piece of plastic stuck to the oil on the end and another tiny piece in the tube. unfortunately i was unable to get it out and it fell down the tube. hope the oil filter does its job. the bottom spacer seems fine, but the top one was cracked like crazy. see pic. so i just pulled the rest off. just wanted to warn other people to keep an eye out for this.

Mine broke as well. Still need to replace it. Good news is the piece must not have caused any damage as it has been like 40k miles since it happened.

I'll have to inspect mine. Do these cars have pick up tubes for the oil pump? if they do, that's where it'll get stuck and impede the flow into the oil pump.

rhodes, what was your mileage when it broke/you noticed it? im at 67k and im glad i caught it now before more pieces fell off. hard to tell from the pic, but it was cracked all over. i drive about 40 miles today and everything seemed fine.
mhoward, idk about the oil pump system.

should we start a class action lawsuit to have this covered under an extended warranty?

I owned my A4 less than 2,000 miles before I had to replace mine at around 49,000 miles.
I've owned a car or two, however,I've NEVER had to replace a defective dipstick until
this one.
The upper part of the stick was breaking off as well.
DON'T bother with the class action, you'll just be making a few lawyers rich.

idk, i assumed it was a spacer or something, but the top one that broke is smaller so im not sure. you should just take a hammer and smash it off before it crumbles in the pipe lol

haha that sounds like a good idea if it serves no purpose. I only noticed 1 of those on my dipstick, it was the top one....maybe the other one already crumbled in there
