Be sure to read what is covered in your CPO warrenty very carefully. I almost put off a repair that would not have been covered when the warrenty switched over to the CPO. My speedometer is 6 mph off, and needs to be recalibrated. The odometer, on the other hand is accurate. Recalibrations are not covered under the CPO unless a replaced part needs to be calibrated to work properly. My car goes in the day before the original warrenty expires to recalibrate the speedometer.

I have no idea what my CPO covers and never get a straight answer when I ask. Havn't needed it but it would be nice to know. They always say we will have to see when the problem arises because the list is too long.

Under the CPO I have found that even the Audi service guys are not always sure on what is covered. I have even had service guys say it is not covered and then take it in and the service guy that day said it was covered. I would push to ensure they really know what is covered and not covered.

I figured my speedometer was out of wack by the fact I had a 2000 Jetta GLX that was 3.5 mph off, and read an article that all European cars have this problem due to European speed laws. The other red flag was that if I went the speed limit, everyone was passing me. My dad's GPS confirmed that the speedometer was reading 70 when the car was going 64 mph.
I also stopwatched the car using the mile markers, and came up with just over a 5 mph difference. Another thing you can do is get up to speed, and reset your trip computer if you have the option, and it interestingly enough will reflect the correct speed, not the speedometers speed.
My concern is the black box, that can sometimes be supeanaed in an accident. No one seems to know if the box reflects the correct speed, or the speedometers skewed speed. I would rather not get accused of speeding and getting blame or fault for an accident when I was not speeding. 6 mph is enough over to get you in trouble in some places. Worse yet, if I choose to do 75 in a 70, the speedometer would be reading 82, which could really get you in a bind. In Michigan that is just a couple mph away from a misdemeanor ticket, if the box was ever supeanaed in an accident.
I Know I might sound a little nuts, but the speedometer is off, and in my book, 6 mph is not acceptable. These are expensive machines, and for as much as we spent and continue to spend on our "babies" it should be correct.

yea thats a good point. as far as i know, my audi doesnt have the 'black box' but yes speed always plays a part in accidents and crap.

do you know how the dealer would go about fixing the difference? i assume they'd have to take apart the dash and instrument cluster and adjust the needle's spring? might be worth it if its covered under the warranty still

I talked to the dealer today, and they said that it is not fixable. The gears for the speedometer that are on the transmission are the only ones that are made. He told me some other things that did not completely wash, I suspect, that they were just trying to get out of the fix. Basicly I was told, that there was nothing they could do so no need for the appointment.

I plan on talking to the dealer in the down where my parents live. I will be visiting sooner or later, and may try to see if I can schedule something while I am there. Problem is the warrenty ran out today, and the CPO may not cover it.
