General idea on the difficulty of working on a 07 A4 2.0t
I'm about to buy an 07 Black A4 Quat 2.0t automatic 93k miles (timing belt replaced and regular synthetic oil changes). I know nothing about the 2.0t platform, drive train, reliability or difficulty to work on it etc
I've owned a first gen 1.8 TT and have performed various things here and there but most basic maintenance, how similar is the 1.8t to the 2.0t? I've also owned a few e36s and have rebuilt them from the ground up so I know how Germans like to make things difficult.
I just want to know what I'm getting myself into and red flags or suggestions from the community before I buy?
Thanks!

Can't provide a comparision to the 1.8 for you. Things can be a little tight on these cars (not any different than other newer cars). Seems to me most are able to the basic stuff themselves. I have struggled with some items (diverter value as an exampe) and no problem changing others (PCV).
With the TB and waterpump done you should be in great shape. I believe the 07 still had the cam follower issues so you will want to watch that. Once again most seem able to make that repair themselves.

Should be a solid car for you. The PCV valve, cam follower, coils and diverter valve are all known issues for these cars. You can read the sticky at the top of the thread page for more information. But I've done all those repairs except the coils to my car myself with just basic set of tools. My coils were done before I bought the car. Other than that it should be a reliable car....that's also not to say something will not go wrong because things do happen, and they happen to any auto maker.
It's not that difficult, it only takes about 10-15 minutes to take apart and about the same to put back together. I just did it the other day
I would mainly just watch out for oil consumption in these models. Also my airbag light is on and my oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. You are gonna have a lot of little things to repair with this car, but I think it is worth it.
^^^ what he said, theres a ton of small things always going wrong with these cars. as long as you work methodically you shouldnt have an issue, although i would suggest having access to a lift if you plan on doing all your own maintenance.
this car will most likely end up costing you more than most others on the road even if you plan on doing your own work, parts are expensive and there are a ton of quirks like the diverter valves and the cam follower issues
i love my B7, but it had done a number on my wallet
