Quick car specs: Audi A4 2.0 TDI Avant Quattro S-Line - 2007

My interior rear view mirror simply came off the other day. The mirror is of the auto-dimming electrical type. With how easy it was to get off (since it snapped off while I tried to adjust the mirror), I though that fitting it in place again would be easy. I've now spent about 2 hours in the car with my face against the wind screen trying to reattach it.

Here's a quick image of both the mirror piece and the connecting part on the window.

I'm sorry for the poor quality, but light was really bad.

The mirror has an outer plastic "shell" that makes the three metal "teeths" hard to connect to the windows "counterpart". I thought it might be to simply stick it onto the window and "knock" it back in place. No such luck so far, and I dont want to break anything out of ignorance either.

Some people suggested that the normal way of fitting it is to turn it 60 to 90 degrees, pushing it against the connector and then rotating untill the spring locked it in place. There's a few issues with this aproach:
* The way the mirror is made makes only the outer edge connect if you turn it by more than about 15-30 degrees.
* If I ignore the fact that 30 degrees is a far cry from 60-90, and try to push it in while turning, it simply does not budge.
* Inspecting the window connector I can't see any springs or things that would make a spring-like feature.

I thought that maybe a piece had fell off, but I have not found any pieces in the car to suggest this, nothing on the floor, under the seats etc.

ANY help to resolve this and reconnect the mirror would be greatly appreciated.
