iPhone integration 2008 A4 with navigation
Hi all, first post here. I have searched for the answer to this all over the place so I'm sorry if it's been asked but I didn't find it here. I have the 2008 A4 with navigation and an iPhone connection in the glovebox (images here https://i.imgur.com/ixzvc.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/Q3mr6.jpg) which I can actually plug my phone directly into and it can play iTunes and Spotify. However this is clearly not ideal and it doesn't charge my phone.
First what in the world did Audi make it like this for? Second what are some options to integrate my phone to the car? My primary goal is to play music through my phone and my short term solution is to get a male to female iPhone cord and use my phone in my hand. I'm looking at something like this CableJive 30-pin Dock Extender Adapter for Apple iPad, iPod and iPhone - Male 30-pin to Female 30-pin Dock - RadTech Products. Anyone done something similar? All ideas and suggestions welcomed, thanks!

I have a 2008 A4 also with the ipod thing in the glovebox. I bought a ProClipUSA mount for my iphone, they have one where you can plug in the cable to the mount and leave it connected and just drop in your phone. So, you don't have to keep (un)plugging the cable into your phone. They have side mounts and vent mounts, they are kind of expensive, but there are a lot of cheap ones out there too.
For the cable, I got the same kind of cable like yours: Amazon.com: 4ft Long 30-pin Male to Female Dock Extender for iPod and iPhone - Black Extension Cable Allows Your iPod or iPhone to Reach up to 4 Feet While Plugged Into Your Dock Allowing for Easy Multitasking, Changing Songs, Dock Usage with an Exis
But, since that ipod thing wasn't made for the iPhone, your iPhone won't charge unless you also buy an adapter:

I came across this post when searching for the exact same thing, only I am one step behind you. I just purchased a 2008 A4 with navigation and the exact same iphone connection in the glovebox. I can't figure out how to get Spotify to play from my phone though. What controls do you have to use on the radio/navigation panel to get it to play Spotify?
Thanks for any help!
Thanks for any help!
I bought this
AUX IN - Jack - Retrofit - Audi RNS-E [37898] - $53.95 : Kufatec USA, Inc., The #1 Supplier of OEM Volkswagen & Audi Retrofit Harnesses in the World
Had it installed and had the aux enabled on the nav...it was kind of a pain and took several trips to a dealer and another import shop.
But...now I can use a monster iPhone adapter to use the phone in the car and I keep an iPod in the glovebox.

Hi, I have been looking all over the forums for an answer to this same question but for and iPhone 5s. I have an 2008 a3 with the same ipod dock/cradle in the glove box and I want to be able to play pandora through my iPhone 5s. Is there a way to upgrade the adapter with a new ami cable? Or will I be able to buy an adapter off of eBay or amazon and have some functionality?
You have a few options:
1) The easiest, just buy a 30 pin to lightning adapter
Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m) - Apple Store (U.S.)
The downside here is that your phone is still in your glovebox, you could always buy a super long cord and run it out the side of the glovebox or something.
OR
Follow the link above to the Kufatec adapter. I had this installed in my '08 A4 and it works great. I did have to go to two shops though. I went to a car audio place to have the hardware installed, then I took it to an import shop to have the Aux options enabled in the nav unit.
Here's what I do now, i bought one of these:
Monster® iMotion CarPlay Direct Connect 3000 for iPad, iPhone and iPod
ps. they're cheap on ebay...and I just use that for power and to run the aux so I can stream anything from my phone, i think you'll need an adapter for that as well, last i checked they only make them in 30 pin. Lastly, do yourself a favor and cover the motion sensor with black electrical tape...it doesn't really work.
