Issue with the tire pressure monitoring system
Hey guys! I got my Audi A4 ~2 months ago (Coming from an E46 BMW -- also a great car) and this is my first post on the Audi Forums. I only wish I weren't here with a problem
I had my windows tinted, and the owner of the business promised in advance that their tints would not cause any signal interference. However, the next day I crank the vehicle up, and my tire pressure monitoring system showed a TPMS error on the dash (ie, not tire pressure problem, but system malfunction). I am wondering if this error could be due to the tint somehow interfering with the TPMS signals coming from the sensors. However, I took the vehicle to the dealer this past Friday, hoping they would be able to find the problem (My vehicle is still under warranty), but they were unable to find the issue or fix the error. Furthermore, they seem skeptical that the tint could cause this issue. They want me to bring the car in on Monday and give me a Jetta loaner (For I don't know how long) while they replace some kind of control module for the tire pressure system. Does anyone have advice about what I should do? Should I allow them to do all that work on my A4 (frankly I don't enjoy letting other people mess around with my cars) or do I take my issue to the business that installed my window tint? Thanks in advance to anyone has advice regarding the situation. I will keep the forum posted on the situation as I get further developments!

I have heard that the metallic tint could affect sat radio and nav funstion, but have not heard it ever messing with the TPMS. Did the system error appear the first time you started the car after getting the tint or was it the next day? You would think if it was the tint the error would have popped up driving away from the tinter. I would let them replace the module.
The tint guy will probably laugh at you if you attemt to go to him. There is no way that it is related to that, just bad timing. If the car is under warranty do not sweat it, that's what warranty is for. No worries and enjoy the Jetta.
Not true, the 2 dealers I have used both used rental places for loaners. I have never gotton an Audi for a loaner. I was lucky to get a base model VW. Hell I got a PT Cruiser once. That sucked.
Agreed, I took mine in for maintenance last week and they gave me a loaner for the day, a 2011 Tiguan. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but was actually a really nice vehicle.
I've never gotten anything other than another A4.
Its a dealer expense. Dealer told me it was cheaper for them to use Enterprise than having to worry about a bunch of loaners on their dime being trashed or miles being put on them. Pretty crappy if you ask me but its a lot of them that do it. My Mercedes is the same way.
