K&N air filter and MAF
i read on the B6 forum about ppl that had put in a new K&N air filter in place of the stock cotton one. ppl had said that when they changed it they had an engine light that came on saying their MAF failed and the only way to replace this was to put the stock one back in. Has anybody had this experience with the B7 and if so if there anyway to buy and uprated MAF that will work with the new filter?
thanks
thanks
It will only make the maf fail if there is too much oil on the filter then then gets sucked in by the turbo and ends up on the maf sensor. If installing a new K&N filter just make sure to dry it off to remove any extra oil that might be on it before installing it into the car.
I have NEVER had any luck with these filters working without throwing the MAF sensor...this started years ago when I had a VR6 Jetta and after going to a local place to clear the codes several times...went back to the paper media. My indy said that it was pretty common in Audi/VW to have problems with the oil residue coming from the filters...even new filters from the box. Good luck with it and post what happens after you dry it well......
You shouldn't have any problem with the K&N filter right out of the box. It's when you clean and re-oil it that you run the risk of too much oil and triggering the sensor. When you clean, just make sure not overdo the oil.
My buddy uses the ITG filters and swears by 'em. I'm thinking of making the switch to ITG when the next cleaning for my K&N is due. They're not any more expensive than the K&N. http://www.itgairfilters.com
To be honest, I can't tell if theirs any noticible difference vs. stock filter. Some cars to sound a little different with the better filter/air flow.
