Default Looking to Buy A4/S4

Well Im new to Audi in general, Work for Ford Motor Co. so I pretty much always had Fords.

I have always loved the audis especially the sporty fun a4/s4's. I definetly wanting to pull the trigger very soon. Im interested in a4 s-line quattro is a must, or s4 B7 that damn grill is so sexy! I would consider a s4 but I really do want better fuel economy. So what do you guys reccomend? And is there anything I should look for when buying used a4's? How is the reliability, I read a little online and it seems to be a very solid fun and reliable car.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank You, and good to join the community.

Well for power & fun an S4 or RS4 (340-420hp). For fun, modding and fuel efficiency a 2.0TFSI (200 or 220hp stock). If you live in Europe the 3.0TDI S-Line is also an option 233hp and tons of torque (over 500nm I think) as well as excellent MPG. The 3.2fsi is also a decent engine (256hp) but you are limited to modding/upgrade options.

I would go with a 2007/2008 2.0TFSI SLine Quattro, you have the front sporty grill, sporty suspension/seats and you can always chip it a bit to increase your HP/Torque without losing MPG. For the 2.0T I would get the 6sp manual as well, this is the best tranny for the 4 cyl. Check to see if the coil packs were updated (Audi recall) and take it for a test drive. If it has been serviced properly (check book) it should be good to go. Also get the CPO warranty for it.

Good luck!

Hey,
Good choice hehe...even though Ford makes good cars now
I think you should watch out for the s4 especially living in chicago and with all the snow... you may have a hard time driving it in the winter with that much power...
I think your best bet would be the a4 s-line actually... and there was a guy selling one in Plymouth a month ago that I was interested in... 20K miles for 21,500... s-line 2008 audi a4. I didn't buy it because I bought local (Canada haha)
If you really like the s4 grille you can try looking for an a4 with rs4 body... i was really lucky and I found one and i jumped on it right away... it will be harder to find though so good luck!
I attached a photo so you can see the diff (the rs4 body has bigger front grilles than an s-line body)

You won't be disappointed during the winter. I have an "06" 2.0t quattro manual tranny. The car gets good mileage and goes through the snow of west Michigan with ease. With the bigger tires on the RS version though, you might want to look into narrower snow tires, as the large wide performance biased tires on the RS can hammper any cars winter abillity. The 4 is not as smooth at idle as the 6 or the 8 cylinders, but gets very respectable gas mileage.

yeah with that beast of a mustang you have why bother with a lower HP S4. i'd get the A4 2.0T for a daily driver that'll spoil you and that's good on gas. if you get alot of snow and rain i'd get the quattro.

Default my $.02

i agree 110%... A4 s line 2.0T with 6sp tranny and quattro... i have drivin both and of course the S4 is a bit faster (not much after chipping the A4 and well worth the $500) the repair costs and upgrade options blow the S4 off the map...

Yeah Ford! What a turnaround sometimes I could hardly believe how great they are doing and with awsome quality. Omg thats a good price for the miles! I see alot of them still going around 25k with 40-50k miles. Thanks for the pic all this will help me decide very very soon, I may have a nice xmas gift for myself.

I agree I guess you pretty much answered my question, I have an insane fast car now I want that German styling man. I think the A4 is a perfect start.

Wow, what kind of gians did you see after chipping it? Yes these posts really help me make my mind up. Fun, classy a4 s-line that gets 29mpg. Im very happy to hear that the maintanance on this car is very resonable as well this plays a huge role to me. Thanks guys I appreciate it.

When I get the a4 pics will follow for sure!

i really suggest the APR line of chipping http://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_up...tfsi_long.html you gain roughly 40hp but 50 lbs of torque... the real hidden secret in chipping is the ability to rev higher without damaging your engine. read up on it. it really makes a difference... it releases all the capabilities of car and pretty much makes it euro specs... hope this helps...
