Looking to maybe get an A4
Hello everyone. I currently own a 2000 Cheverlot Camaro V6 3.8L but I am looking to buy a new car. I am looking into 2005-2006Audi A4 2.0T Quattro. I am also looking into BMW M3's but I am sure that would kill me on insurance seeing that I am only 19 years old. Also the Audi's gas prices surely are better. Just wondering if I would see a big jump in performance from the Camaro.
Thank you for your time!

You would see a jump in the Hp but the handeling would sweep you off your feet.

I'd suggest a call to your insurance company NOW, not after you buy a car. Ask them to give you quotes on every model you're considering.
If you think rates with your current company are high, you can do the same with another company.

I would still give them a call. An Audi isn't necessarily a cheap car to insure, but they certainly (A4s) aren't the most expensive by any means. An M3 will be far more expensive.
The Camaro sucks. Sorry. Horrible design, horrible handling, horrible performance (for anything not SS/Z28 tuned) and IMO just a terrible car. You seriously need to dump it for something German.

Good idea to check the insurance FIRST. IMO the handling and AWD will be superior to the Camaro.
The 2.0T is not known for being a rocket, however, I think the performance is awesome and the car is plenty fast stock for the overall package that it provides.

Yeah I hear ya. I currently pay 1560 a year on the Camaro for insurance. It's not too bad. I got a quote the other day on a brand new 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and it was only 10 bucks more a week than what I am paying now.

I don't own an A4 but I do own a Camaro. The A4 will offer you far superior handling in the twisties and will be farmore satisfying to drive than the 3.8 V6. For the money you spend on an A4 you could get an LS1 F-body but I'd say the A4 will be a better daily driver by a longshot in terms of gas mileage and utility (read Quattro).
As for insurance, the best thing you can do is fill out an application on a website like: http://www.insurance-compare-save.com/?iorb=4764
You will get calls from several insurance companies that are going to fight over your business. You would be amazed to see how cheap insurance can be. Just remember to have a copy of your current Declarations page handy to ensure you are getting the same coverage.
Good luck!

The A4 provides a driving experience beyond simple Hp comparisons, it's quieter inside, better collision protection, better brakes, better suspension, better exterior finish, and simply more refined. I live in the country and have had multiple impromtu runs against V8's, they're faster in the 1/4 mile than my lil' A4, but their eyes get real big in their mirror when they see me hanging with them at the 1/2 mile mark and beyond. If it weren't for the 130 mph speed limiter, a 2.0T A4 which is geared for the Autoban, would run for miles at 140+. Few American or Japanese cars will pull very hard at 100, while the BMW, MB, and Audi's still have pretty good acceleration to 120.
The other significant feature of the Audi is "quattro",there is no other driveline in a passenger car that can match our ability to find traction in adverse conditions if it doesn't have a Torsen center differential. The worse the driving conditions, the bigger the difference between a normal 2WD car and a quattro equipped car. As long as all four wheels are on the ground, at least two of them will find and use what ever traction is available to accelerate and corner, braking isn't improved since all cars have four wheel braking. I've plowed power snow up my hood to the windshield, up my uphill drivewayand never even spun a tire, while my neighbors Toyota SUV had to chew it's way up his driveway. The comfort of knowing that few vehicles are better equipped to handle adverse conditions means that I can enjoy the music inside even more.
