Motor Mounts
Anyone have their motor mounts go bad? Apparently mine are now leaking fluid. The motor isn't in danger of coming loose, but apparently the fluid helps with dampening engine vibrations, which might explain why I've been noticing the buzzz of the engine more lately. Because one mount is in a nasty spot, it'll be $1000 to fix.
This dealer is usually on the reasonable side of things price wise. Apparently both are leaking, and one is hard to get at due to the turbo etc. The parts are $400 the labor is the killer. It's a 6 hour job. I was told not to worry, the engine's not going anywhere, and I could just let it be, but the buzz is bugging me. The other thing is, if the motor sits on the mounts, and the fluid has leaked out, wouldn't that mean the mount has compressed, effectively letting the engine and or transmission settle, and end up out of alignment with the rest of the drivetrain causing other issues?

400.00 is retail for the mounts, but the internet price is 130.13 for the drivers side part number 8E0-199-379-BG and the pass side is 138.61 dollars part number 8E0-199-382-AJ both in stock at this time. Plus 11-15 dollars shipping to most places. If you have any questions please ask us. Thank you, Jeff.
hey B7, just out of curiosity, did getting the motor mounts replaced fix your clunking sound you have from another thread? I just came across a piece on the internet that mentioned motor mounts fixed the clunk. Also did you replace them yourself? Thanks.
I'll have to drive and pay attention to see if the clunk went away. I was going to have it fixed this summer, but it mysteriously quit. I did notice a bit of a clunk every once in a while a few weeks ago, but now that the mounts have been switched I'll listen again. The dealer put in the new mounts. Because of the turbo and plumbing in the way on the one side, the engine has to be lifted.
It's totally amazing the transformation with the car. It use to shudder when starting, and between 1500 and 1800 rpm was also very vibration prone. Highway speeds felt like I was on perpetual coarse pavement, and letting off the gas while keeping the car in gear, also caused quite a bit of vibration. Since it was also time for new spark plugs, I had them put those in as well.
Unfortunately, I had to give back my new Q7 loaner. Apparently my 06 doesn't qualify for an even trade.

You might want to have someone see if they see fluid leaking from the motor mounts. My 4 cylinder wiggled quite a bit at idle before I had the mounts replaced. My 4 cylinder really vibrated at certain engine speeds. Your 6 cylinder is naturally smoother than my 4, so you might not be getting as strong of vibrations as I did, even though your mounts could be bad.
