Default New A4 Owner!

Hey guys how's it going? I just recently traded in my old bmw for a 2006 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro. It's got 71k miles, nav without bose. So no less than 2 hours after driving off the lot the sunroof breaks and starts stopping just shy of closing and then opening back up, well I went back to the dealer to show them the problem. They showed the the fine print that said "As is no Warranty" so I was on my merry. After 4 hours of trouble shooting and checking audi forums I found lubing and checking for objects to be the best bet. I looked around and found nothing in the way. I lubed up the bars with graphite. Still the issue remained. One time when I turned the **** to open, then to close I pulled down on the switch as when to close it form being vented, it closed just fine. I tried this 6 more times and it worked. I was happy with this fix. So I used this fix for about a week, till today I noticed it was working fine. So hopefully someone finds this post and helps them someday.

Now on to other questions. I have this wood grain interior, it's kinda... old man ish to me. How hard is it and how much to switch it with silver or carbon fiber? Anyone have a suggestions on floor mats? Mine came without any. Also, is there any good horse power mods I can do to this car? I feel like it could use a little more oomph.

And any suggestions in general on the car to make it alittle nicer or better? I'd love to fix up the stereo, the speakers pop when it's barely turned up.

Thanks,
Ron

First off welcome? Used car dealers are slime!

Make sure the sunroof tracks are clean before adding any lube. You might just be adding additional lube for more dirt to stick to. If the tracks are cleaned & then lubed & you still have a problem i would suspect a faulty switch.

As far as the old Manish look of the wood grain i resemble that remark! I happen to like the wood grain.
I guess it is possible to find someone who likes the wood & has what you like & switch with them.

Sounds like the anti pinch needs to be reset. Not sure how to do it though. Might try a search. Had this same problem with my Jag.

Edit:

Went a head and found these two options:

turn key to pre ignetion stage... turn the **** all the way to fully open and hold beyond the regualr return point until the roof is fully open. turn key off for 5 secs... turn back on do this in the oposite direction till the sunroof closes. now push the **** up and back down for the tilt feature and turn key off it should be programed.

Alright so here is the proper procedure now that I got home if the above one doesn't work.
Procedure is only for an already installed sunroof,
1) Remove the interior light. Leave the rotary switch connected. Set the rotary switch to position one or two(comfort or fully open positions). During opening of the sunroof panel, remove the power supply plug of the sunroof motor. Switch off the ignition and remove the key.

2) Turn the sunroof rotary switch to position zero (closed). wait 30 seconds. Reconnect power supply plug to the motor and switch on ignition.

3) Turn the rotary switch quickly from closed to any open position and go back to closed position. Wait until the sunroof panel is closed and the clicking of the relay can be heard from the sunroof motor

4) within the next 5 seconds, pull the rotary switch (pull the lug of the ****). Hold the pulling function until the sunroof tilts, opens, and returnes to the closed position. It may take 8-10 seconds for roof movement to commence.

5) after the programming switch off the ignition for at least 15 seconds.

Great! The Sunroof is now working just as it should. Opens and closes without issue! Thanks! On to the next small issue. The middle LCD screen is cracked where my AC controls are. How hard is it to change this out? Can I just get a replacement LCD or do I have to swap the whole unit?

Thanks guys!

Ron

Wow, that's a pretty lousy dealership. Was this an Audi dealership?

I feel your pain about the wood-grain, but you might as well buy a new car as it'll set you back about $1300:
OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning

I would get the OEM floor mats. I like them. They snap onto studs to keep them from moving around. Also, they're much cheaper than the trim kit:

Good luck and welcome!

Hey thanks! Those mat's look nice! Better than what I saw on Ebay, esp since these have the clips to hold them in place!

I am guessing that screen is part of that whole unit. Might be able to find that whole unit on ebay or at a parts yard. If I remember correctly it shows the fan speed.

Which method worked for you on the moonroof?

Hey! I am also a new owner of an Audi. 2004 A4 1.8 T. Ive only had the car a few days and my check engine light just came on. If anyone is from South FL and can recommend a michanic in Palm beach I would greatly appriciate it. Also, I have a headlight out and i went to autozone to be told i had to go through audi to get it replaced. How true is that?
