Hey guys, I'm looking at possibly selling my GTO and getting an A4. Can someone help me out with my questions?

Everything is in this thread: https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=159082

Thanks!

GTO to A4? Unless you really want a gas saver i'd go S4 if I were you. If Gas saving is the main reason then A4's are great.

Actually yes, gas and having AWD are the reasons. right now my gas mileage is like 14.8 COMBINED. That's starting to hit me pretty hard. Plus I'm getting older and I want something that's not going to make me mod the crap out of.

Yes some audi's burn oil more than others but imo, its not a big deal adding a quart of oil every 4-5k miles. There really isn't much of a turbo lag in this car, it spools up very quickly and with a little foot work you can really get a pretty good launch on it, more than enough for a daily driver. the 2.0t's are great cars and have its quirks just like any other cars. Most of the quirks are easy fixes and doesn't hurt the car, other than the dreaded cam follower which should become part of routine maintenance.

alright, good to know. Also, is there a permanent fix for the cam follower problem or does it just wear away all of them?

Good luck with that not wanting to mod thing. As a LS1 magnacharged GTO owner and a new B7 Quattro 2.0T owner, I spent the weekend looking at big turbo kits for the Audi.

I haven't seen a permenent fix for the cam follower (although I've seen where someone make a longer lasting one) so I plan on changing it occasionally. Also there seems to be an issue with carbon build-up on the intake valves - apparently an issue with most direct injected engines.

I would Recommend the A3 if you want something a bit quicker. They do use a different stylw AWD but the are about 300 pounds lighter and if you want Auto, they have a DSG which is far superior to what you get in an A4. I'd still get the Hatch even if you want a six speed as I have a GTI and an A4 and the hatch is so much more versitile. Also a bunch quicker.

Dump the holden gto and get the a4 2.0 Quattro. Double your mpg and the little car just scoots seems to be happiest running 75 -85 mph. One of the car mags called it an adults gti. You wont be dissapointed, esp. in 4-6" of new snow.

The A4 is a great car. efficient and quick. the cam follower was revised halfway through 07, but I don't know how much difference it made. The 09 and newer use a roller, so in those models its not an issue. There is an aftermarket fix for the follower that uses a roller, but it is almost as expensive as having the repairs done. If you have the pre 07 and a half, you won't be able to modify the system to the roller yourself. My car uses no oil, and has had no major mechanical problems. Wonderful in snow, even deeper snow.

Get the A4. The A3 uses an haldex AWD system. Those systems engage and disengage the rear axle depending on if there is slippage. Basically you will be dragging around 300 + pounds that will almost always not be doing anything, unless slippage is detected. Some of the new haldex systems engage all wheels when accelerating from a stop and disengage at cruising speed, but I don't know if an A3 built before 09 can do that. That haldex system came out on the 08 Saab 9-3
