Newb here, few questions!
Okay...so I currently drive a 2003 Hummer H2. I'm terribly sick of the gas mileage. I'm looking at an AWD car as I'd like to get some performance back but not have such awful mileage.
I'm looking at an 05 or 06 G35x or a 2005 Audi A4. My biggest concern is that it seems the Infiniti gets far less MPG than the A4 and I don't know what makes up for the difference. V6 vs 4 cylinder maybe?
I guess I'm just fishing for opinions on both. The G35x gets 18MPG avg city/hwy...that's pretty bad I feel. I know the A4 gets 24MPG avg.
I'm not sure what to do...

I would say go for the Audi. I used to have '07 g35x and I was barely getting 18 miles per gallon. Right now I have '06 Audi A4 2.0t quattro manual. I have done lots of mods to it and still get around 22 mpg. Also, I get more compliments on the looks of the Audi than the Infiniti. As far as performance goes, the g35 is really quick, I would say much quicker than the A4, but with a few mods the A4 will be just as good. Almost any sedan or coupe will seem fast to you compared to the H2.
I'm very pleased with the milage I'm getting my my A4 2.0T. By nature, turbos are very efficient. On the highway I can go almost around 500 miles per tank.
As for the Quattro system, it's awesome. It's one of very few true AWD systems out there. A bunch of car manufacturers claim they have 4WD or AWD but it doesn't really work. Quattro is the best and the ESP system can keep you out of trouble. It snows alot where I live and I use all season tires. No traction problems during the worst of times.
I think you'd be very happy with a 2.0T Quattro. It's everything you're looking for.

i'd say go with the audi, and i'm tryin to b as unbiased as i can on this. u said the g35 was a 6cyl? thats one reason why the audi is gettin better gas mileage. the a4 is a 4cyl which means thats 2 less cylinders for gas to be used by. i have an 87 audi coupe 5cyl and i love it. i just made a trip from nashville, tn to los angeles, ca and i filled up maybe 5 times if that. so in conclusion i'd say the audi is the best bet.
gO WITH THE A4. I have 2.0TQ and my best tank was 34.7mpg calculated (three times just to be sure). It is a zippy car indeed! While it doesn't run like a big block, or a chipped diesel, it is very capable for a 4 banger.
Obviously you're posting on an audi forum, so everyone answering your question is going to be somewhat biased. That being said, I have to vouch for the A4 over the Infiniti. I just bought my first Audi A4 Turbo about 2 months ago and the mileage is one of the aspects that blows me away. I typically get around 430 miles per tank (which I think is about 16 gallons). Very impressed so far with the mileage, pep and luxury of the car and I can't wait for it to snow so I can see how the quattro handles.
Depending on how you drive, auto vs stick, Q vs F track your mileage may vary. I have attained up to 550 miles on a tank full when driving conservatively . The non Quattro's have a 70 liter tank (Q a 65 liter I believe) so that may be the reason along with the 6 speed manual. On average driving here in Germany with autobahn avg speeds of 85-110mph I still get 420-450 miles. I think you will only see better mpg from a TDI engine.
