Default No boost at Low RPM (1.8k to 3k)

Hi Audi Forum followers,

I've recently purchased a 2nd hand 06 Audi A4 B7 Quattro (Tiptronic).

After reading on the forum with so many good reviews on APR Stage 1 ECU, I Decided to take the plunge and upgrade the ECU to APR stage 1.

However, after installing the ECU upgrade my mechanic told me that my car has boost issue that the turbo is not boosting between 1.8k to 3k RPM. After 3k RPM the turbo is boosting normally (even slightly higher than normal sometimes).

He suspected it was the DV problem, so he changed a new DV in there and its still the same issue.

Now that he said it could be the problem with the bearing being very tight and it causes the turbo to not spool up properly. But he is not 100% sure.

Before going to spend 2k on trying to free up the tight bearing and not solving the boost problem.

It would be great to have some advices from people on this forum if they had previous experience or have more information to shed some light on this problem.

Thank You

Just talked to the mechanic, he said that they did some leak test and diagnostic on the boost level. It seems like the car is not spooling until 3.5 to 4k RPM. So their final conclusion was that the turbo is screwed and I need a new turbo or rebuild the old one. Which costs a lot of $$$.

Does anyone know good websites that sells K03 OEM turbo?? I've asked if its worth to put the K04 and the mechanic said that K04 is not as good as it doesn't kick in at the lower RPM.. any suggestions on what to do next?

Was there any unusual noises when you accelerate from a standstill, say from a stop light? Also, did you talk to an Audi tech? Before you go the route of replacing new a turbo, you might want to double-check all the hoses, and also the PCV and Breather Tube (for the updated PCV). Also, it doesn't hurt to ask the previous owner about the history (and I'm sure you had to a point) to see if they were replaced.

Sounds like a boost leak to me..I had the same problem on my 2003 A4.
My problem was a gash in the turbo lines, once the turbo made boost faster than it could escape ( around 3k RPM) that's when it took off.

Easiest and free way to do a boost leak test was this site ->>The Fast And East Way to Test your Turbo For a Boost Leak How to test for a boost leak Test your turbo for a leak, boost leak testing Audi Boost Leak Test TT A4 A6 A8 S4 S6 S8 Twin Turbo Bi Turbo Bi-Turbo Audi VW Jetta Passat 1.8 L 1.8 L Turbo Engine

Hope this helps. If the link doesn't work here the direct link
